Terrifying incident as jeep reverses into buggy at Cork pedestrian crossing

A young child and his parents avoided injury in Cork on Sunday after a jeep hit his buggy at a pedestrian crossing.

A section of Patrick Street in the city centre, just by the junction with Marlboro Street was sealed off after the crash which happened around 11.30am on Sunday.

CorkBeo has reported that the vehicle pictured reversed back into the crossing, taking out a pole and hitting the buggy.

A young couple and their child, who is only six months old, were there at the time.

Thankfully the tot wasn't hit, however his father ended up on the road and was later taken to hospital with what's believed to a minor injury.

Gardai rushed to the scene along with units from the Cork City Fire Brigade.

The National Ambulance Service was also present.

A spokesperson for the gardai confirmed the accident.

They said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a road traffic incident on Patrick Street in Cork this afternoon, Sunday 23rd April 2023.

"Patrick Street is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

"No further information is available at this time."
