Law enforcement responded on Monday to address a brief tense situation involving poll observers at an elections office in Cobb County, Georgia. The incident occurred when election observers refused to vacate seats reserved for voters, prompting election officials to call for law enforcement intervention. According to Cobb County Communications Director Ross Cavitt, by the time deputies arrived, the situation had already been resolved.
A nonpartisan election observer, who chose to remain anonymous, characterized the GOP poll observers as confrontational towards the staff. One particular incident involved election staff intervening to prevent observers from photographing a voter, as reported by the observer.
The observer commended the election staffers for their efforts in managing stressful conditions and addressing issues with poll watchers. They stated, 'I think there has been a great deal of work trying to prevent this from having any intimidating or uncomfortable effect on voters.'
Salleigh Grubbs, the chair of the Cobb County GOP, who has previously shared misinformation about the 2020 election, attributed the tense situation to local officials. Grubbs suggested that some individuals within the board of elections were attempting to restrict observers from fulfilling their duties. She claimed that the incident revolved around an observer attempting to capture a photo of a ballot they deemed 'unusual.'
