Ten teens injured in New York nightclub shooting as gunmen open fire on queue

Police at the scene outside of the Amazura Concert Hall in Queens, New York City - (ABC)

Ten people were injured after attackers opened fire on a group of people outside Amazura nightclub in New York on January 1.

Police said four male shooters fired around 30 shots at a crowd queuing for a private event, marking the second mass shooting in the United States this year.

Four men and six women, aged between 16 and 19, were rushed to hospital with injuries, though none were life-threatening, according to local authorities.

The attackers fled on foot before escaping in a car with out-of-state license plates.

A further 90 people were inside the club at the time of the incident, which was swiftly locked down following the shooting.

According to The Sun, people had gathered at Amazura club to celebrate the life of Taerion Mungo, 16, who was shot and killed in October 2024.

Social media footage of the scene featured a number of emergency responders and police vehicles surrounding the scene.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the unidentified suspects remain at large.

“Officers responded to the multiple 911 calls and found a total of 10 victims – six females, four males – who were taken to area hospitals,” said NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.

He added: “All of the victims are expected to recover with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Mr Rivera also clarified: "This is not terrorism."

Although there was a decline in mass shooting incidents in 2024, the US still recorded almost 500 mass shootings throughout the year.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, another mass shooting event was recorded on January 1, which left two people dead at a New Year’s Day party in Illinois.

The Amazura shooting came less than a day after America’s first mass casualty event in New Orleans, where an attacker killed 15 people after ploughing his car into revellers in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Not long afterwards, a Tesla Cybertruck filled with fireworks exploded outside a Trump hotel, killing its driver. Investigators have yet to confirm whether the two recent events were related.
