With just weeks to go until Christmas, people across Glasgow are keeping an eye on their wallets while trying to keep the kids entertained and excited.
Looking for things to do, and spending a bit of time outside the house, can be tricky sometimes. Across Glasgow, there are various free events to head along to.
We've scoured the calendars to find out what's happening across the festive period at no cost - for a bit of Christmas fun without breaking the bank.

Why the Nativity
On December 3 the new feature film Why the Nativity will premiere, with the film’s maker offering up 25,000 free tickets for families to head to their local cinema. The hope is for a free festive day out, as well as a chance to learn about the Christmas story.

Inhouse Events CIC Christmas films
After a successful summer, Inhouse Event CIC are bringing back their movie screenings to The Briggait - with the first allocation of tickets released back November 3 and selling out within days.
The remainder of tickets were released on November 25, with two additional showings added to the schedule. Titles include family favourites such as Home Alone, The Grinch, Gremlins, Die Hard and The Nightmare before Christmas.

Style Mile Christmas Carnival
Held this weekend, the Style Mile Christmas Carnival will take place throughout the city centre bringing together performers, dancers and musicians.
A ‘magical afternoon’ set to delight young and old - the entertainment will be on from 12.30pm until 4pm. Included in the line up are the Beauty and The Beast dance troupe, Giant Elfies, Rudolph and Friend troupe, the Snowman pipe band and much more.
Locations include the cross of Buchanan Street and St Vincent Street, Royal Exchange Square, Gordon Street, Princes Square, and others.

Glasgow West End Christmas Lights
Also held on November 27, the West End Christmas light switch-on will be accompanied by a festive market.
Kicking off at 11am, a selection of local traders selling gifts, crafts, food and drinks and entertainment will be on offer. The official switch-on begins at 5.30pm at Vinicombe Street.

Christmas Concert at the University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel
Held at 7.45pm on November 29, the University of Glasgow will be hosting a free Christmas concert.
Titled The Advent of Winter, the evening will include choral music on the theme of winter. Organisers advise turning up early to ensure a seat in the Memorial Chapel.

Carols in the Cloisters
Also held by the University of Glasgow, December 13 will see another evening of festive music with the Carols in the Cloisters.
In the fairy-lit cloisters, all ages are welcome to join in for carolling at the un-ticketed event. Kicking off at 6pm, the event page can be found here.
Paisley Family Films
Held at the Wynd Centre in Paisley, a double feature of The Gruffalo’s Child and The Polar Express is being shown for free on December 4 at 2.45pm.
Both films are U certified, with free popcorn provided and 100 spaces per screening available. Book your space here.
Shawlands Christmas Ceilidh
The Folk’s Music Project is holding a festive ceilidh with dancing, live music and light refreshments on December 18, at the Newlands South Church in Shawlands.
Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, with all funds raised going towards the organisation providing accessible and affordable traditional music tuition and activities in the Southside of Glasgow.

Wreath Making classes
A family friendly event, you can have a go at making your own Christmas Wreath - by natural woodland materials found in Castlemilk Park.
The free classes are open to all, though organisers have said G45 postcode holders will be given priority and children must be supervised by an adult. You can book your slots now, here.
