The filing deadline for the South Carolina Republican presidential primary passed on Oct. 31, 2023. Ten candidates qualified to appear on the Feb. 24, 2024, ballot. To qualify, candidates had to submit paperwork and pay a $50,000 filing fee to the state party.
The following candidates qualified:
- Ryan Binkley
- North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum
- John Anthony Castro
- Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
- Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley
- Vivek Ramaswamy
- U.S. Senator from South Carolina Tim Scott
- David Stuckenberg
- Former President Donald Trump
This is the third Republican presidential filing deadline that has passed, following deadlines in Nevada and New Hampshire earlier in October. Binkley, Burgum, Christie, DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Trump are the only candidates who have qualified to participate in all three nominating contests. See the chart below for the number of candidates who have filed in each Republican presidential primary contest.
Note that the list and chart above use the Nevada Republican Party-run caucus as the state’s nominating event, rather than the state-run Republican primary. Delegates to the Republican National Convention will be awarded based on the results of the caucus, not the primary.
The next Republican presidential primary filing deadline will take place on Nov. 10, 2023, in Alabama.
