Tempting Fortune's Carolynne's motivation behind doing show leaves co-stars moved

One Tempting Fortune contestant revealed the heartbreaking reason she chose to take part in the new show.

The new Channel 4 show, fronted by Paddy McGuinness, sees 12 strangers spend 19 days in the South African wildness as they attempt to resist luxury.

They will be tempted with beds and meals but will have to resist in order to win the £3000,000 cash prize.

Retired nurse Carolynne, 65, moved her co-stars when she revealed she was widowed twice.

When a contestant asked what her motivation for doing the show was, she said: "I've been widowed twice, can you imagine that?

"First when I was 25 and I was seven months pregnant, second when I was 43 and my husband died of a massive heart attack."

She continued: "But I still got up and still dusted myself down and I still said, 'There's life out there so go out and f***ing live it."

The other contestants were quiet as they actively listened to what she had to say.

Tempting Fortune is the first of its kind and sees the competitors be given the most basic equipment to survive their gruelling journey.

However, specifically designed temptations are used to entice the contestants into using their collective prize money.

For example, a shower will cost £1,000 while a meal of burger and fries will cost them £1,500.

The new series will be running for six episodes and will air weekly on Sunday and Monday nights.

Paddy, who presents Top Gear, previously teased the series during an appearance on The One Show on Thursday, March 23.

"There's a girl in it called Lani, on episode one, I guarantee she'll be trending on Twitter," he explained to Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

"She's unbelievable, she doesn't care, that girl. I love her, she properly gets it going."

The new series airing comes after it was revealed Top Gear won't continue recording its latest series.

Paddy held presenting duties on the long-running show alongside former cricketer Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris.

However, it was announced on Thursday evening that the show was being axed after Freddie's horror crash during filming last December.
