Law enforcement officials in Maricopa County, Arizona, have arrested a temporary election worker for allegedly stealing a security fob and keys from a ballot tabulation center. The suspect, a 27-year-old individual from Phoenix, was caught on security footage taking the items on Thursday evening.
According to a probable cause statement, the suspect was seen approaching a desk and multiple tabulators before pocketing the red wrist lanyard containing the security fob and keys. When confronted by his employer, the suspect initially denied the theft but later suggested the items might be in his car. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of the lanyard but not the fob.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage outside his residence in Phoenix. A search of his home uncovered the missing fob in his bedroom. Maricopa County Sheriff Russ Skinner commended the swift response of election staffers and law enforcement in safeguarding democracy and ensuring the integrity of the election process.
