South-eastern US states are bracing for the impact of Hurricane Helene, which has been forecast to be the most severe US storm this year.
The hurricane is expected to reach Florida’s coast late on Thursday evening or early Friday morning, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.
On Wednesday, Helene reached parts of Mexico’s Yucutan peninsula and the western tip of Cuba, bringing floods, heavy winds and power outages.
More than 40 million people in Florida, Georgia and Alabama were under hurricane and tropical storm warnings, the National Weather Service said on Wednesday.
