'Tell him 'no'' - Kylian Mbappe sent blunt 'ego' message by Jamie Carragher amid Liverpool transfer rumours

Jamie Carragher has outlined his concerns over Kylian Mbappe's ego after reports the French striker is angling for a move away from Paris Saint-Germain - just five months after signing a three-year contract.

The 23-year-old is thought to be deeply unhappy with PSG's summer business, with French football expert Julien Laurens going as far as to suggest he feels 'betrayed' as a result of the French club not keeping to promises made when the contract was signed in May- including the sale of Neymar and a promise that Mbappe would be the centre of their project.

And despite an excellent start to the season - PSG are top of Ligue 1 and Mbappe has 11 goals in 12 games across all competitions - the former Monaco star has made clear his intentions to engineer a move away from Paris as soon as possible, making a January move likely.

But with a crucial European clash against Benfica to play on Tuesday evening - they drew 1-1 and Mbappe scored - the World Cup winner's attitude has once again been called into question. And with reports stating Liverpool could be in the race for the forward, Carragher has raised concerns over the power and ego that such a young player already holds.

"The problem I have is that why is this coming out now?" Carragher told CBS Sports. "They’ve got a Champions League game tonight. The thing with Mbappe is, I think we all love him as a player, he’s amazing but there is too much ego, power for a 23-year-old player - who is one of the best players in the world - but he is a young player, and I think someone needs to just tell him ‘no’."

Mbappe had previously made clear his desire to sign for Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants had offered €200million for the young striker back in August 2021. But PSG were unwilling to negotiate with a side they deemed a major rival for the Champions League the ultimate goal for the Qatar Sports Investments ownership group.

Upon signing his new three-year deal in May, the French forward received a reported £100million signing bonus on top of his £50million salary - equal to around £961,000-per-week. He has also enjoyed unprecedented player power since, influencing the decision to employ Luis Campos - a friend of Mbappe's from Monaco - as sporting director as well as angling for the sale of Neymar over the summer.

Mbappe had recently revealed that he held talks with Liverpool this summer, although the extent to which a move was discussed is unclear.
