Telangana: Pharma companies told to pay up for norms violation

HYDERABAD: The National Green Tribunal (south bench) dismissed appeals of pharma giants Aurobindo, Hetero Labs and six others, while confirming an earlier imposed fine of Rs 18.2 lakh each for failing to comply with operational regulations.

All the seven companies are in Polepally SEZ in Mahbubnagar district and the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) had ordered to pay the compensation after a joint committee probe.

“We do not find any reason to interfere with the quantum of compensation imposed by the Telangana State Pollution Control Board for non-compliance of the directions issued by them. We confirm the order passed by the TSPCB imposing the compensation against the appellant units,” NGT bench said in its order.
