Gang boss Gerry Hutch is a secret investor in a number of Dublin pubs, we can reveal.
Gardai believe that non-drinker Monk is earning a fortune from the bar trade and is believed to be involved as a silent partner in at least two pubs on the city's northside.
A Garda source said: "Gerry and the Hutch family have invested in a couple of bars.
"You can't find their names - but we know much of the profits are going back to them. Some of Gerry's associates call in from time to time to see how things are going."

The Monk has not been seen publicly since he left the country after being cleared of murder over the Regency Hotel shooting. He hung around Dublin for a few weeks afterwards and then vanished.
It is believed he is either in Turkey or Lanzarote, where he owns property. He had lived in Spain on and off for over a decade before he was arrested at a restaurant in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol in late August 2021.
He has not been spotted on the Costa since he regained his freedom. The Special Criminal Court found him not guilty of the murder of Kinahan cartel lieutenant David Byrne after a lengthy trial.
Hutch has kept a very low profile since he left the country and there have been no public sightings of him. The Kinahan crime organisation have put a €1 million hit on his head in revenge for David Byrne's murder.
18 people were killed during the subsequent Kinahan-Hutch feud caused by the Regency attack but 14 of the victims were on the Hutch side, including some of The Monk's brothers. It is understood The Monk has a network on the ground to help protect him in both Turkey and Spain.
The influence of the Kinahan cartel is waning as the US Drug Enforcement Agency - the DEA - leads an international manhunt to bring them to justice. Christy Kinahan Snr is still believed to be holed up in Dubai, along with sons Daniel and Christy Jnr.
