Teens riding in stolen ACT car triggered cross-border chase, police allege

Police have charged a group of children allegedly involved in a cross-border stolen car chase overnight.

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly driving a four-wheel-drive with five passengers when Monaro police officers tried to stop the vehicle for random testing about 1.45am on Monday, September 14.

The group was allegedly travelling in a Nissan four-wheel-drive reported stolen in Canberra on Saturday, September 12.

On Monday, it is alleged the vehicle did not stop as directed on Cooma Street in Queanbeyan which prompted a police pursuit.

A NSW police spokesman said the pursuit continued through Queanbeyan's city centre before going onto the Kings Highway, towards Bungendore, and entering the ACT.

He said the pursuit in Canberra lasted a short time before the Nissan returned to the Kings Highway in NSW where police used road spikes to deflate its tyres.

The vehicle travelled into Bungendore and came to a stop on Bungendore Road.

The driver and the five passengers - two boys aged 16 and two boys and a girl aged 15 - were arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

The 16-year-old driver was charged with police pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle, receiving property stolen outside NSW worth more than $15,000, driving unaccompanied on a learner licence and breaching her licence conditions.

She was refused bail to appear before a NSW children's court on Monday.

The passengers have been charged with riding in a stolen vehicle and were given conditional bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court next month.
