A 13-year-old boy will face a bedside court hearing in hospital, and two other teens have also been charged, after an allegedly stolen car crashed into a police vehicle and multiple other cars in Newcastle.
Police launched a pursuit just before 3.30pm on Thursday, August 29, after a car believed to have been stolen was spotted in Jesmond.
The chase was called off suddenly when the car allegedly slammed into a police vehicle, causing it to become immobile.
The allegedly stolen car continued on towards the city before colliding with multiple vehicles on Edith Street at Waratah, outside the Calvary Mater hospital, police said.
Three teenage boys allegedly tried to run from the scene but were captured by police after a short foot pursuit.
The 15-year-old police allege was behind the wheel of the car stands accused of wielding a weapon to prevent detention.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were called and police said all three teenagers were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment for their injuries.
Police allege the two passengers - aged 13 and 18 - suffered minor injuries.
The 15-year-old was taken to hospital in a stable condition with a head injury.
Another driver in one of the other vehicles that was allegedly hit, a 59-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
No police officers were injured in the ordeal.
The 15-year-old and 18-year-old were taken to Waratah Police Station when they were released from hospital, police confirmed on Friday.
The younger teenager was charged with police pursuit, driving a stolen car, driving furiously in a motor vehicle and causing bodily harm, and using an offensive weapon in company to prevent detention.
The 18-year-old and the 13-year-old were each charged with joyriding in a stolen car.
The 15-year-old and 18-year-old spent the night in custody and were ordered to front court on August 30.
The 13-year-old boy remained in hospital on Friday and was expected to face a bedside court hearing in the hospital, according to police.
