Teens drinking and harassing people in Swansea city centre to be targeted in new police operation

Unruly teenagers congregating in Castle Square and Swansea Bus Station will be targeted as part of a new operation by South Wales Police to reduce anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

An increased police presence in Swansea will target teenagers who are drinking, dealing drugs, verbally harassing or abusing others and taking part in any other anti-social behaviour. Operation Viscaria will introduce increased patrols in and around the named areas at peak times.

Youths causing problems will be moved on when appropriate, according to police, but neighbourhood inspector Mark Watkins said his plea to parents and carers was "to make sure they know what their children are doing outside of school and in the evenings and weekends." Mr Watkins added that the vast majority of teenagers congregating in the targeted areas had not caused any issues but a small minority were causing anti-social behaviour. Anti-social behaviour by youths is a concern to all members of our community and my officers are committed to doing all they can to prevent any such behaviour," Mr Watkins said.
