Teens charged after alleged pursuit from Islington to Hexham

Three teenagers will face court after allegedly reversing over a man's foot and hitting parked vehicles during an alleged pursuit through Newcastle in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police attached to Newcastle City Police District were called to a home on McIsaac Street at Tighes Hill around 1.45am, following reports of a break and enter.

Officers were told the home was allegedly broken into and a Mazda 3 was stolen from the property.

Police said the 47-year-old resident attempted to stop the theft, but the car was allegedly reversed over his foot before it hit a number of parked vehicles.

A short time later police attempted to stop the vehicle on Maitland Road, Islington.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, police gave chase briefly before losing sight of the car.

Police later located and attempted to stop the vehicle on Brunker Road, Broadmeadow.

A second pursuit was initiated when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop.

It was eventually halted in Hexham, where three teenagers were arrested before being taken to Newcastle Police Station.

A 15-year-old Hunter Valley boy was charged with two counts of police pursuit - not stop - driver at speed, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday, September 16.

A 14-year-old Mid North Coast boy and a 15-year-old Liverpool Plains boy were each charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were both refused bail to appear before a Children's Court on Wednesday, September 4.
