A TEENAGER is in a "life-threatening condition" and five cows have died following a car crash in West Dunbartonshire.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a BMW striking cows on the loose on the A811 near Gartocharn, close to the junction with Old School Road, at around 11.50pm on Sunday.

An 18-year-old male passenger was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where his condition is described as life-threatening.

The driver of the car, a 22-year-old male, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.

There were no other reports of any serious injuries.

However, five cows have died as a result of the incident.

Two cows died at the scene, while three others were euthanised.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation to contact us.

“I would ask anyone who saw the car prior to the crash, or who was driving in the area around the time and may have dash-cam footage, to get in touch.”

Anyone who has information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3712 of June 28, 2026.
