A teenager has been taken to hospital with "potential life-changing injuries" after an industrial accident in Newport. Gwent Police has confirmed that a 19-year-old man from Newport was injured in the incident at Alexandra Docks at around 2.30pm on Friday, May 20.
A police statement said the man was transported to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with "potential life-changing injuries" after officers and Welsh Air Ambulance members attended. The incident has been referred to the Health Safety Executive for consideration.
Associated British Ports (ABP), which owns Newport Docks, said emergency services attended a tenanted site at the Port of Newport on Friday but that no ABP staff were involved.
A Gwent Police statement read: “We received a report of an industrial incident in Alexandra Docks, Newport at around 2.30pm on Friday, May 20.
“Officers attended, along with personnel from the Welsh Air Ambulance. A 19-year-old man from the Newport area has been transported to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with potential life changing injuries.
“The incident has now been referred to the Health Safety Executive for consideration.”
A spokesperson from ABP said: “Emergency services attended a tenanted site at the Port of Newport on Friday afternoon. No ABP employees were involved. Further information is not known at this point in time. An investigation will follow.”
