New South Wales Police say the parents of a teenager were home when their son was fatally stabbed in the early hours of this morning.
An extensive crime scene has been established at the family home on McDougall St in Casino, in the state's north.
Paramedics were called to the home shortly after 1am, but the 17-year-old died at the scene.
Richmond Police District Commander, Superintendent Scott Tanner, said the boy's parents were home when the attack happened.
"They're quite distressed," he said.
Superintendent Tanner said no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered in what police believe is a targeted attack.
The incident follows the death of another 17-year-old, who was stabbed during a brawl in Casino last month.
Police are not ruling out a link between the two events.
“Whilst the investigation is quite early, we’re looking at all lines of inquiry,” Superintendent Tanner said.
Long-time Casino resident Peter Geraghty, who lives near the crime scene, says the town has been rocked by the recent fatalities.
“Anything can happen around here,” he said.
Additional officers from the region, and homicide detectives from Sydney have been sent to assist investigations.
