A 17-year-old has died and another is injured after a car crash in north-west Queensland overnight.
Police said a vehicle with four occupants was heading toward Cloncurry on the Barkly Highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, just before 11.30pm yesterday.
The 17-year-old male driver died at the scene.
Queensland Ambulance Service North West District officer Brad Hardy said a 17-year-old female passenger suffered a partially-amputated leg.
She was taken Mount Isa Hospital in a critical condition.
Another 17-year-old female passenger and an 18-year-old man were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr Hardy said one had a fractured jaw and minor head injuries and was taken to the Mount Isa Hospital.
He said the other suffered minor injuries and back pain and was taken to the Cloncurry Hospital.
Paramedics from Mount Isa and Cloncurry attended the scene.
Mount Isa Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
Mount Isa youths
Mount Isa police officer Inspector Erin Shawcross said all the youths involved in the incident were from Mount Isa.
"Police are working with the Department of Education to ensure support services are in place throughout the community," Inspector Shawcross said.
He said the vehicle involved was not stolen and was "not an avenue of investigation".
