Teenager convicted after murdering man in Deptford over a stolen bicycle

A 19-year-old has been convicted of murdering a man in Deptford in a dispute over a stolen bike.

Jackson Uwagboe, 19, from Lewisham, was found guilty of murdering Robert Robinson, in “brutal and sustained” attack in 2024.

The savage murder of the 21-year-old was found, the court heard, to have stemmed from an altercation over the bicycle.

At around 10:35pm on June 6, 2024, Metropolitan Police officers received reports of a stabbing on Carteret Way in Deptford.

They attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, where they found Mr Robinson, who been stabbed 12 times, including defensive injuries, as he attempted to protect himself from the brutal blows.

During the trial, the jury at the Old Bailey heard how on the day of the attack, Uwagboe had robbed a 17-year-old boy of his bicycle and phone on Deptford High Street.

Mr Robinson was part of a group that went to the home of Uwagboe’s friend, Ryan Wedderburn, 18, in the hopes of locating the bicycle and the thief.

When no one responded at the property, the group left and then allegedly damaged two cars belonging to the Wedderburn family.

After a short time, Uwagboe left the property with Ryan Wedderburn and their friend, Kirk Harris, 19, all armed with machetes.

They spotted the group on Carteret Way, chased and cornered Mr Robinson before stabbing him at least 12 times.

All three killers fled the scene, leaving paramedics to try to save Mr Robinson’s life.

Despite their best efforts, Mr Robinson was tragically declared dead at the scene.

On June 7, Uwagboe fled the country for Nigeria. During this time, the Metropolitan Police launched a lengthy investigation in which they sifted through hundreds of hours of CCTV, phone records, bank account details, and DNA to identify the killer.

When Uwagboe returned to the UK on February 25, 2025, he was arrested at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of murder.

On February 10, he was found guilty of murder, robbery, possession of a bladed article at the Old Bailey.

Ryan Wedderburn and Kirk Harris are already serving life sentences for Mr Robinson’s murder, having been convicted at the same court last year.

Eromosele Omoluogbe, 24, was also convicted of perverting the course of justice after he booked a plane ticket to Nigeria for Uwagboe after the attack and drove him to Heathrow airport.

Detective Inspector Neil Tovey from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who led the investigation, said: “Today’s verdict brings justice for Robert Robinson and his family. Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by a group of men armed with knives. He was unarmed, already wounded, and on the ground when Uwagboe attacked him. His claims of self-defence were entirely without foundation.

He paid tribute to the Robinson family, who had been “forced to endure hearing those responsible attempt to excuse the inexcusable” during the trial.

He commended the family for showing “immense dignity” throughout the process.
