A teenager has been charged in connection with the possession of a pyrotechnic within a football ground whilst at Aberdeen's home match against St Mirren on Saturday.
Cops charged the 17-year-old following an incident at Pittodrie Stadium in the Granite City during the cinch Premiership match on August 6. Several pyrotechnics were set off inside the stadium during the match, and in the area surrounding the ground prior to kick off.
Police say they are working to identify others wielding fireworks at the time - and to identify the perpetrators behind an attack on a supporters' bus before the game which allegedly saw the front window of the vehicle smashed. Possessing fireworks at a football ground, or even attempting to bring them in, is a criminal offence under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985.
Sergeant Jon Spence, from Police Scotland's North East divisional Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit, said: “Pyrotechnics are inherently dangerous and present a risk of serious injury to those who discharge them and those around them.
"I would ask fans to consider their own safety and wider public safety.
"We will deal robustly with anyone who chooses to use pyrotechnics illegally.
"Police Scotland will continue to work with Aberdeen Football Club to ensure that anyone involved in criminality in or around the ground will be dealt with appropriately.”
Aberdeen thumped St Mirren 4-1 as the Buddies went down to ten men in a game to forget after Declan Gallagher was sent off after just 22 minutes.
Jonah Ayunga's penalty in the 53rd minute was small comfort for the Paisley side as the Dons saw two goals from Bojan Miovski and one apiece from Leighton Clarkson and Luis Lopes.
