Teenager charged with first-degree homicide after teacher dies in prank-gone-wrong

  • Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old high school teacher in Gainesville, Georgia, died after being hit by a car while chasing students involved in a toilet paper prank at his home.
  • The incident occurred late Friday when Mr Hughes slipped on wet ground and fell into the road as teenagers attempted to drive away after covering his yard in toilet paper.
  • Jayden Ryan Wallace, 18, was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering, while four other teenagers face misdemeanor charges.
  • Mr Hughes' wife, Laura, a fellow teacher, has urged authorities to drop all charges against the students, stating her husband would not want their lives ruined by the tragic accident.
  • School officials had previously warned students to end the annual prank war due to past escalations, and a GoFundMe for Mr Hughes' family has raised over $200,000.
