Teenager arrested after €110,000 worth of cannabis seized by Revenue in Santry

A teenager has been arrested after gardai and Revenue discovered €110,000 worth of Cannabis following a search in the Santry area of Dublin.

This bust came as part of ongoing investigations targeting people suspected of having involvement in an organised crime group operating in this area of north Dublin.

The search was carried out by personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Ballymun and Coolock District Drug Units and the Revenue Customs Service.

Gardaí arrested a male in his teens in connection with the seizure. He is currently detained at Ballymun Garda Station for questioning.

A statement from a garda spokesperson confirmed: As part of ongoing investigations targeting persons suspected of involvement in an organised crime group operating in the Santry area, an operation was carried out earlier today, Wednesday, 9th November 2022.

“The joint Operation was conducted by personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Ballymun and Coolock District Drug Units and the Revenue Customs Service.

“During the course of the operation, a premises was searched in the Santry area of Dublin and approximately 5.5 Kgs of cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €110,000 was seized by Revenue Officers.

“Gardaí arrested a male in his teens in connection with the seizure. He is currently detained at Ballymun Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.”

A Revenue spokesperson also confirmed the operation’s find by writing: “Today (09/11/2022), as part of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized 5.5kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €110,000, following the search of a residential premises, under warrant, in the Santry area of Dublin.

“The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Ballymun and Coolock Divisional Drugs Units.

“A male in his teens was arrested by An Garda Síochána and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Ballymun Garda station.

The Revenue spokesperson also insisted that: “If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.”
