A murder investigation has been launched after a schoolboy aged 16 was fatally stabbed in north London.
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a teenager injured when his motorcycle collided with a lamppost in Beachcroft Way, Islington, at 12.12am on Tuesday.
Officers and paramedics attended and Deonte Mowatt-Slater was found with a suspected knife injury.
Medics treated the victim at the scene in an attempt to save his life but despite their efforts, he sadly died.
The teenager’s family are being supported by specialist officers and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled, the Metropolitan Police said.
There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation. At this point it is unclear exactly where Deonte was when he suffered his injury. He was found injured on Courtauld Road along with his motorcycle.
“We are working hard to establish the sequence of events that led to this tragic loss of a young life.
“I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed, or has footage of, any part of this incident.
“A number of crime scenes remain in place while we continue with our enquiries, and I would like to thank local residents in advance for their patience.
“Today a family has received the worst possible news – if you have information about this incident please do the right thing and get in touch.”
A number of crime scenes are in place in the area including Courtauld Road - where is it believed an altercation took place - and nearby Sussex Road.
Islington Council Leader Kaya Comer-Schwartz said: “I’m deeply saddened by the tragic news that 16-year-old Deonte Mowatt-Slater has lost his life after being found with a fatal injury in Archway early this morning (Tuesday 22 October).
“My thoughts are with Deonte's family, friends and everyone impacted at this extremely difficult time.
“The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation and we are working with them to support the community, including extra patrols locally and specialist support for young people.
