Teenage girl sexually assaulted in early morning as police launch manhunt

POLICE are looking for a man after a teenager was sexually assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning in North Lanarkshire.

Officers were alerted that at around 1am on Sunday, a 17-year-old woman was sexually assaulted while walking down a lane near Blair Road and Auldhame Street in Coatbridge.

Police said the woman was approached by a man who is described as white, with dark hair, and was wearing a padded jacket and dark trousers.

The force said that enquiries into the incident are ongoing and that officers will remain in the area.

Detective Sergeant Jo McCall said: “This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim and it’s imperative we identify the man responsible.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and assist our investigation.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us.”
