Teenage Cancer Trust Comedy Night at the Royal Albert Hall review: fizzing with comedic talent

Bridget Christie - (John Stead)

Our screens have been awash with comedy recently, notably the launch of Saturday Night Live UK and the second season of Last One Laughing. But sometimes it is refreshing to see stand-up in its purest state, live onstage. This year's Teenage Cancer Trust Comedy Night positively fizzed with its heady cocktail of superstars in the flesh.

Compere Dom Joly, chosen by TCT Cure-ator Robert Smith, wasted no time bringing on first act, Miles Jupp, who maybe suffered from the fact that the full house had not really been warmed up. But he soon hit his stride with a series of domestic gripes, mostly based around the Jupp household game of "trying to guess where my wife put a thing". If opening proceedings was drawing the short straw Jupp at least contented himself by confirming he'd be luxuriating in his hotel bath before the curtain was down.
