A person who died after being hit by a train in Widnes on Monday has been identified as a 16-year-old boy.
Emergency services were called to the line between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington at 9.48am on Monday. British Transport Police (BTP) said paramedics attended but were unable to save the teen and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an update today (September 14) BTP confirmed the victim was a 16-year-old boy.

In a statement issued on Monday, a BTP spokesperson said: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The deceased's next of kin have been informed. National Rail issued information regarding disruption to the network and urged anyone experiencing crisis to seek support such as calling Samaritans on 116 123.
A spokesperson for the rail operator said: "If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat."
