Teenage boy among three injured in 'shooting and fighting' in south London

A teenage boy was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound after a shooting in Camberwell.

Police were called to reports of gunshots and a fight at around 9.35pm on Denmark Road on Wednesday night. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and a 17-year-old boy was treated for a gunshot wound on nearby Carew Street.

The boy was taken to hospital by paramedics. His injuries were confirmed to be non-life-threatening and not life-changing.

Police also said two men, aged 25 and 19, presented themselves at hoaptial later that evening. Their injuries were also confirmed as non-life-threatening or life-changing.

The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made. A spokesperson said the Met was “working at pace to trace those responsible” and it understood the concern of local residents.

The LAS said it was called to reports of a shooting at 9.44pm on Wednesday and sent “a number of resources to the scene”, which included ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and another paramedic from the tactical response unit (TRU).

TRU members are paramedics with additional training and equipment to “work as part of a multi-agency team to respond to specific firearms and other incidents, should the need arise,” according to the NHS.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.44pm on Wednesday 8 April to reports of a shooting at the junction of Carew Street and Denmark Road, Camberwell

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic from our tactical response unit and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. Our first crews arrived in approximately three minutes. We treated a patient for a gunshot wound and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “We understand the concern caused by incidents of this nature and want to reassure the community that detectives are working at pace to trace those responsible. On Wednesday, 8 April at around 21:35hrs, police were called to reports of gunshots and fighting on Denmark Road, Camberwell.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a 17-year-old boy for a gunshot wound on nearby Carew Street. He was taken to hospital by paramedics and his injuries were later confirmed as non-life-threatening or life-changing.

“A 25-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, who are believed to have been injured as part of the incident, also self-presented at hospital later that evening. Their injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation continues.”
