Teen schoolboy 'too stubborn' to go to barbers left looking like Dumb and Dumber after giving himself trim

A teenage schoolboy left himself looking like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber after giving himself a haircut - as he was too 'stubborn' to go to the barbers. Carly Bickerdyke says she's been pestering her son Mason Prady, 14, for months to get his fringe trimmed by a barber.

But the 34-year-old was left in shock this week when her son took the task upon himself, cutting his own hair with a pair of kitchen scissors. The teen chose to show off his new trim by appearing on the Ring doorbell camera so his mum could see it while at work - grinning with a short, straight, bowl cut style fringe just like Jim Carrey's iconic character.

A shocked Carly responds 'why have you done that? You're not even funny'. The mum-of-three admits she was left 'crying with laughter' and pointed out to a confused Mason that he looked just like Jim Carrey - but the teen didn't know who he was.

Carly, from Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, said: "I've been telling him to get his hair cut for weeks and he's been saying no. He's quite stubborn, if he's not doing something, he's not doing it. His fringe was in his way and getting on his nerves so he trimmed it himself.

"They pressed the ring doorbell and I was like 'what have you done, why?' and he said 'just because I wanted to'. I found it funny. I was crying with laughter. My cousin sent me a photo of the Dumb and Dumber haircut and Mason came in my room, I looked at him and couldn't unsee it.

"I said 'I can't talk to you Mason without seeing Jim Carrey. I can't look at you without laughing'. It's so funny. He didn't even know who Jim Carrey was so he googled him and he was laughing at it. He's seen some of the films like The Mask but he doesn't know him by name. Him and his friends were in stitches looking at the pictures."

The year nine pupil had been growing his hair for months in the hope of getting a perm but his fringe had started to irritate his eyes. Luckily, none of Mason's school friends have seen his new do as it's the summer holidays and Carly is hoping a barber will be able to fix it with a short back and sides.

Carly said: "We're going to get the barbers to sort it out. He'll have to have a short fringe and back and sides. He'll have to grow it out again if he wants a perm. He wouldn't mind letting his friends see, he'd still go to school because he knows it would make people smile. He's a character, he likes to make people laugh.

"He was probably trying to entertain himself with school being over. He gets bored very easily and has to be doing something all the time and it kept us all entertained for a few days because I couldn’t talk to him without laughing."

Carly said she and Mason's siblings, Ruby, 12, and Alfie, 10, are used to him pulling stunts like this. Carly said: "It's not the first time he's done something like this. He saw a trend on TikTok of people putting tape on their eyebrows so he did it and took his eyebrows off. It's normal for him. His siblings keep laughing. Ruby was googling Jim Carrey all night to show me photos. I'm going to get them to watch Dumb and Dumber."
