Teen rushed to hospital with serious injuries after attack on Scots beach

A teenage boy has been rushed to hospital after being attacked on a beach in North Ayrshire. The incident took place shortly before 6.30pm yesterday when a 16-year-old was assaulted on Irvine Beach.

Emergency services sped to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers want to hear from anyone with any information on the attack, including those who may have seen it or taken footage of it. They are hopeful of hearing from people as the beach was 'extremely busy' at the time.

They also said a heavy police presence will remain at the popular spot following the incident.

Detective Inspector Stephen McCulloch, from Saltcoats CID, said: “The beach was extremely busy at the time, given the hot weather, and so we’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack or has potential footage to please come forward.

“Officers will continue to patrol beaches across Ayrshire in the days ahead, as part of the Safer Shores initiative, and encourage the public to act responsibly during the hot weather.”

Anyone with information on the serious assault is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident 3093 of 18 July. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.

It comes after a massive booze haul was seized in Ayrshire yesterday as hoards of youngsters flocked to local beaches during the heatwave, with Troon, Ayr, Prestwick and Irvine packed out as temperatures soared.
