Shocked tourists looked on in horror after a young woman was impaled on an iron fence in Hyde Park in a horrific accident.
Fire crews and paramedics rescued the unfortunate walker, in her teens, after arriving on the scene at 5.18pm yesterday.
The brave woman gave the peace sign to onlookers as medics carried her to an ambulance before she was rushed to a major trauma centre.
The horrific accident, which occurred just minutes from Kensington Palace, left onlookers open-mouthed.
One witness told reporters the woman had been impaled on the railings for over 20 minutes before medics and fire crews came to her rescue.
A pair of witnesses who arrived shortly after the woman became impaled said: "It was a freak accident... a lot of people have a few drinks and try to climb over those fences.
"We feel horrible for the girl but it seemed like she was getting the right care.
"We were told that she had been there some time and we were there for 15 to 20 minutes before she was put into the ambulance."
The witness added that another bystander had told them that the woman was 17. Meanwhile fireman used machinery to cut through the fence and free her.
The witness told The Sun: "She was surrounded by firemen and paramedics, our first thought was that we hoped she was ok.”
They added: “We were really relieved when we saw her make the peace sign...she seemed in good spirits."
The London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5:18 pm yesterday to reports of an incident in Hyde Park near Bayswater Road.
“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene. We treated a teenager at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre."
