Teen killers seen on CCTV leading dad to canal edge before stabbing him 35 times

Chilling CCTV footage has shown the exact moment three teen killers were seen leading a dad to his death, before they stabbed him 35 times. In the shocking clip, Liam Bailey, 19, Liam O'Brien, 17, and Harry Maher, 16, are seen luring Scott Anderton, 33, to a deserted canal where they repeatedly knifed him.

The thugs then pushed the helpless man into the water and left him there to die, the Liverpool Echo reports. The heinous murder of the father took place in Wigan in the early hours of March 25, 2022. All three killers were found guilty of murder after the CCTV footage provided clear evidence that they had played a significant role in his death.

The teenagers had spotted Mr Anderton walking himself in Leigh town centre, with only one shoe on and carrying a plastic bag. They walked with him to a concealed part of the canal before stabbing him repeatedly and pushing him into the water.

The vulnerable dad had tried to pull himself out by lurching onto the bank but he lost consciousness from his injuries and fell back into the canal. Mr Anderton's horrifying murder has led to more cameras being installed across the borough after Wigan Council put £500,000 into a security system which was a key tool in catching Scott Anderton's evil killers.

The three young males were all given different sentences, after a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court. Bailey, of Diamond Street, received a life sentence in prison with a minimum term of 23 years and four months.

Maher, of Green Lane, Standish, was also jailed for life and has been ordered to serve at least 16 years before he is eligible for parole. O'Brien of Schofield Street, Leigh, was given a 10-year prison sentence.

Since 2019, there have been an additional 118 CCTV cameras put in place across in the borough, with 52 of those being added to Leigh. Another 30 were installed on Standishgate in th town centre, a further 25 in Platt Bridge, six at Haigh Hall and five at Chapel Lane Car Park.

Councillor Kevin Anderson, portfolio holder for Police, Crime and Civil Contingencies at Wigan Council said: "The expansion of our CCTV network will continue following our latest successful bid to the Safer Streets Fund which awarded the council with almost £750,000 to improve safety and deter anti-social behaviour in Platt Bridge and Scholes.

"This investment is in addition to many great initiatives being overseen by the Place and Community Safety Partnership, which aims to ensure Wigan Borough is a safe place to live and work for us all."
