A teenage boy had to be rescued by a fire crew after falling 30ft into a locked Newcastle courtyard.
According to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, the unnamed 17-year-old had been trying to climb the wall next to the Dog Leap stairs at the bottom of Dean Street in the city centre. But his early-hours parkour attempts nearly ended in tragedy.
The boy plunged from the stairs into a courtyard next to the UpSide Down souvenir shop. Injured and trapped in the locked area, the lad could have found himself in serious danger.

Luckily, firefighters were called and were able to save the injured teen, using specialist kit to free him from the courtyard.
A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "Thankfully our crews were on scene minutes after receiving a call with concerns about the trapped teenager. They used ladders to enter the courtyard and make sure he was okay before using specialist kit to open the gate.
"He was not seriously injured but taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution, nearly 45 minutes after crews arrived on scene. It was a great response by our crews at Newcastle Central Community Fire Station and we’re just glad the boy wasn’t badly hurt.
"We hope it reassures you that if you or your family ever need our help, we will be there."
