A teenager has died and another is in hospital after stabbings near a western Sydney school as classes let out for the holidays.

Reports of multiple stabbings near a school in Doonside triggered a police operation about 3.40pm on Friday.

But before police could reach the scene, two boys arrived at Blacktown Police Station with stab wounds.

One of the boys died there, while the other has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police have arrested one person as they investigate crime scenes near the school and the station.
