Teen appears in court charged with murdering young woman days before Christmas

A teenager has appeared in court charged with murdering a young woman.

Courtney Boorne was found critically injured on the afternoon of Friday, December 23, after Merseyside Police received reports of a disturbance at a block of flats on Quarry Green Heights in Kirkby. The 20-year-old later died in hospital.

Liam Cain, of Skipton Road in Anfield, was brought before Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning, Wednesday, charged with her murder. The 19-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief hearing.

He was not asked to enter a plea to the count. Cain was remanded into custody by District Judge Wendy Lloyd ahead of a further appearance before Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow, Thursday.

A cordon had been put in place around the apartments following the incident, which occurred shortly before 4.45pm, with police having carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area. Residents told the ECHO they had heard "screams for help" from a window shortly before officers arrived at the scene.

One resident said: "I've lived here for six years and it's typically been quite quiet until recently This is such an awful thing to happen."

Ms Boorne's family said they were in "total disbelief" and "still trying to come to terms with what’s happened" following her tragic death. More than £3,000 has now been donated to her loved ones via an online crowdfunding page.
