Tech & Science Daily: Is climate change threatening the 2022 Winter Olympics?

The Winter Olympics 2022 kicks off in Beijing this Friday, but due to climate change these games are set to be the first relying totally on artificial snow fired from giant guns.

We spoke to Dr Madeleine Orr from Loughborough University, who is the co-author of a report looking at the impact of climate change on the Games.

Staying with the Winter Olympics, the FBI’s warning athletes and visitors to use throwaway ‘burner’ phones when they visit China amid cybersecurity fears.

It comes after Citizen Lab warned what it called “devastating” flaws in the official Olympics app, called ‘My2022’.

A tiny magnetic seed that can be guided through the brain to heat and destroy tumours, may be able to reduce cancer recovery times and could contribute to the survival of patients.

The new therapy, demonstrated in mice by the UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging, is called “minimally invasive image-guided ablation”.

An asteroid that’s shadowing Earth’s orbit could stay relatively close to our planet for the next 4,000 years.

The asteroid’s progress is being tracked by telescopes in Chile, Arizona and the Canary Islands.
