Tearful Stephen Eustaquio honours late parents after Canada World Cup winner

Stephen Eustaquio became emotional as he paid tribute to his late parents after scoring Canada's winning goal in the FIFA World Cup.

On Sunday (28 June), the midfielder scored a stoppage-time winner against South Africa, allowing his team to progress to a last-16 clash against Morocco or the Netherlands on 4 July.

In a post-match interview, the 29-year-old became tearful after a reporter asked him how he was feeling after “everything you’ve been through”.

In 2023, his mother died following a battle with brain cancer, and a year later, his father died from a heart attack.

“Everything I do is for my family, for my parents, for my girlfriend, for my daughter. For my friends back home. For everyone.”
