Authorities enforced curbs in all districts of the Valley and reduced mobile internet speeds following widespread protests on Sunday. Major demonstrations were reported from Lal Chowk and Saida Kadal in Srinagar, as well as in Budgam, Bandipora and several other areas. Lal Chowk, which emerged as the epicentre of the protests, was completely sealed off on Monday.
Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in large numbers along Airport Road and other sensitive locations. Concertina wires were laid across key roads, and security checks were intensified, with vehicles stopped and frisked at multiple checkpoints. Shops and business establishments in several parts of the Valley remained closed in response to the shutdown call.
