The Team USA men’s 3x3 basketball team faced a disappointing exit from the Paris Games after a tough 21-6 loss to the Netherlands on Sunday. This defeat placed them in seventh position after seven pool games, with only two wins and five losses to their name. In the 3x3 basketball format, the top two teams in the pool of eight qualify directly to the semifinals, while the next four teams advance to play-in games to compete for the remaining two semifinal spots.
The US team, consisting of Jimmer Fredette, Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis, struggled in the absence of Fredette, who missed the last six games due to an injury sustained in the opening match. Against the Netherlands, Barry, Maddox, and Travis each contributed two points in a collective effort.
The Netherlands, led by Worthy de Jong's impressive 11 points, secured their place in the semifinals as the second-placed team in the pool. The US team faced a challenging journey in the pool stage, suffering defeats in their initial four games against Serbia, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. However, they managed to bounce back with victories over France and China, reigniting hopes of qualification. Unfortunately, the defeat against the Netherlands dashed their chances of progressing further in the Paris Games.
