Team GB bobsleigh duo Brad Hall and Nick Gleeson suffered a dramatic crash at the Winter Olympic games.
The pair’s hopes of achieving Olympic glory were dashed after they hit the wall and flipped over as they came around the 13th corner at a speed of 83.7mph.
They were two seconds off the pace set by the German team of Friedrich and Margis when disaster struck.
The athletes, who were one of Team GB’s brightest hopes for a medal, continued to hurtle around the course despite being flipped on their side, before slowly coming to a halt.
Some officials scrambled to help them out and both Hall and Gleeson are okay and were able to walk away from that crash, but were shaken and disappointed by the outcome.
Nicola Minichiello, three-time Olympic bobsledder on BBC TV, was devastated for the duo, whose Olympic medal hopes came to an end in the worst possible way.
“A million different scenarios will have gone through Brad Hall's head, frustration, disappointment, panic, everything," she said.
“Brad knew he had to push it, he came off curve 13 just a little bit late, he had to fight for every single hundredth of a second and I'm just devastated for him.
“Now it's about getting his head down, he can go for the fourth run he's still qualified, if not it's about focusing on the four-man.”
John Jackson, a two-time Olympic bobsledder on BBC TV, echoed Minichiello’s sentiments and recalled his own heartbreaking experience as a competitor.
“I completely feel for Brad Hall and Nick, I went through this in 2010 and it broke my heart.
“You are here, you are fighting, you are doing your best, you are representing your country.
“The main thing is, other than damaged pride is the guys look really good.
“I just hope Brad can forget about this now over the next few days and step into the four-man and take that as a chance to bring the medal home.”
Despite the accident, their time was only 0.17 seconds slower than they had managed in the second run on Monday and are still expected to qualify for the fourth and final run.
