Team England dealt another blow as sprinter pulls out of Commonwealth Games

• Team England sprinter Louie Hinchcliffe has withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games ahead of the 100m competition getting underway.
• Hinchcliffe, who is coached by American sprinting legend Carl Lewis, won an Olympic relay bronze at the 2024 Games in Paris and has impressed with his performances while studying in the US.
• However, he has opted to pull out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, while 400m runner Charlie Dobson has also withdrawn.
• This follows on from several high-profile athletes including Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Dina Asher-Smith pulling out of the Games last week.
• Hinchcliffe pulling out means Elliot Jones, who finished fifth at the recent UK Championships, is due to be England’s only representative in the men’s 100m, with the athletics action in Glasgow due to begin on Monday evening.
