Teacher Uses Tyreek Hill’s Quest For NFL Record To Make Math Fun

A Miami-area math teacher is using Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s incredible 2023 season to help her elementary students learn the basic math skills of addition and subtraction.

On Friday, the NFL shared a video from Mary Martinez’s TikTok page, showing the teacher making the subject fun by using Hill’s quest to break the NFL single-season record for receiving yards.

“Miss Martinez is awesome for this. ✏️ 🏈 (via maryisbananas/TikTok),” the NFL posted on X (formerly Twiter).

Hill, who has hauled in 93 receptions for 1,481 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games for Miami this season, is attempting to become the first wide receiver in NFL history to eclipse the 2,000-yard plateau in a single season.

In the viral video, Martinez is seen helping her Pinecrest Elementary School class discover that the veteran wideout needs to average 110 receiving yards per game the rest of the season in order to break Calvin Johnson’s single season record of 1,964 yards set in 2012.

Fans on social media commended Martinez for incorporating sports statistics as an effective way for young students to learn essential mathematical skills.
