While some school staff urge parents to avoid giving novelty presents like teacher-themed mugs at the end of the school year or Christmas, every present is still gratefully received - however small.
One teacher has shared her horror last year after receiving a Christmas gift from the school she works in, however, as it made her feel everything but festive.
The art teacher struggled to hold back her frustration upon opening the seemingly innocent gift from her employer, as it left her incredibly disappointed. Taking to TikTok to reveal the unusual pressie, the woman, who posts under the handle @lil.yambs, left everyone baffled as to why her school would offer her such a strange gift.
Asking people whether she's being 'a brat' in the video, the woman said: "I'm confused. Is this a joke? I got my Christmas present from the school. It's literally a Covid rapid test."
The art teacher moved the candy-cane themed wrapping paper off the box to reveal the Covid test, before letting out a big sigh in disgust.
She then joked that it was her 'Christmas bonus' after adding the hashtag #teachersareunderpaid to her post - further showing her frustration at the lacklustre present.
The American educator's TikTok video went viral, as people were seriously mind-blown by the strange gift.
People flocked to the comments section to share how gobsmacked they were by the gesture. Many made the same point - that at the time last year, while Covid cases were still high, testing kits were free in the US district they are from.
At the time, one person wrote: "Those are the current free ones I just got in the mail today from the gov".
While another added: "Sorry but omg I wasn't expecting it to be this bad" with three laughing emojis.
A third added: "What??!? You can go online to the USPS website and request 4 of those tests for FREE!" while another added: "Just plain insulting - I'd rather have nothing!"
Many others pointed out that it was 'hilarious' that the school had decided to wrap the gift, as one said: "What??!? You can go online to the USPS website and request 4 of those tests for FREE!"
Other teachers have shared that they've never received gifts from their school, as one wrote: "Girl, all we got was a Merry Christmas announcement on the intercom".
Another added: "Last year we got served hot cocoa that was left over from an event for the kids lmao".
