Staff at a national homeless charity cut down women who had a cord or wire around their neck on 26 occasions in a 10 month period, TDs and Senators will be told on Tuesday.
The Joint Committee on Housing will hear from representatives of homeless organisations and will review the progress of recommendations made by TDs in an interim report on tackling homelessness.
Dr Una Burns of Novas, a national homeless charity and an Approved Housing Body, will tell the committee that the level of self-harm, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts is “staggering” particularly among women and in dedicated female services.
