Taylor Swift only needed a few seconds to create one of the biggest moments of Saturday Night Live . The singer made an unexpected appearance during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue. No musical performance had been announced. Swift simply walked onto the Studio 8H stage as Johnson spoke about the friends who had supported her through difficult relationships.

The audience reacted immediately. Johnson then introduced Swift with a joke that made the cameo even better. Yet the comedy was only half the attraction. Swift’s fall-ready plaid outfit quickly became another reason the Taylor Swift SNL appearance drew attention.
