Fans of Taylor Swift whipped themselves into a frenzy this week as they became convinced she would be performing at the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime show.
However, it seems her well documented feud with music manager Scooter Braun has scuppered any hopes that the singer will take to the stage at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, in February.
Fans became sure that 32-year-old Taylor would take to the stage to perform some of her biggest hits during the USA’s biggest annual TV event.
Rumours were sparked when the NFL sent an email at midnight announcing Apple Music as the new sponsor of the halftime show.
This caused some fans to note that Taylor has taken to sharing information at midnight in recent month - and her new album which is due to be released next month will include songs that she wrote at midnight over the years.
It was also hoped the fact Apply Music was replacing Pepsi as a sponsor would clear the path for her to perform as she has a contract with rival carbonated soft drinks company Coca-Cola.
Fans were crushed when TMZ declared that Taylor wouldn’t be performing at the event after all - and they now claim it is due to her ongoing feud with 41-year-old Scooter.
TMZ reports: "Sources with direct knowledge of the Super Bowl halftime show tell us Swift was approached months ago by SB honchos, asking if she'd headline.
"We're told Taylor was clear - she didn't want to perform until she finished rerecording all of her first 6 albums.'
Taylor is in the process of re-recording and re-releasing her first six albums as Scooter bought the rights to the original versions back in 2019. Her ‘Taylor’s Version’ editions of her first albums will mean she can perform the songs as new - with no royalties reverting to third parties.
Scooter reportedly sold the master recordings in 2020 - prompting the pop star to embark on a mission to re-record her tracks.
She has thus far only re-recorded her albums Red and Fearless - with her self titled album, and the albums Speak Now, 1989 and Reputation yet to be re-recorded.
Earlier this year, the Super Bowl Halftime show was performed by Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent - with fans hailing it as the best Halftime performance ever.
Past performers in the high profile spot include the late music legend Prince, undisputed Queen of Pop Madonna, Destiny’s Child icon Beyonce, and pop sensation Katy Perry.
