Taylor Swift mentions Wicklow in new album Midnights and fans are losing their minds

Popstar Taylor Swift mentions Wicklow in a song from her new album Midnights, which was released today.

Fans of the American singer were quick to stream the album as soon as it was released today, listening carefully to the lyrics of each track. And Irish fans were delighted to discover a nod to her time spent in Ireland.

Taylor spent some time in Dublin and Belfast while her partner, Joe Alwyn, was filming Conversations With Friends. Her time here in 2021 clearly left an impression as the garden of Ireland county made its way into the album's lyrics.

Her song Sweet Nothing is among the tracks that offers a rare look into her relationship with actor Joe and references their time in Wicklow together. In fact, the song was co-written by William Bowery, the pseudonym of Joe.

The song lyrics go: "I spy with my little tired eye, tiny as a firefly, a pebble, that we picked up last July.

"Down deep inside your pocket, we almost forgot it, does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes?"

Fans seemed to be buzzing about the nod to Ireland in the song. One person on Twitter wrote: "Taylor Swift saying Wicklow in sweet nothings is a win for Irish people everywhere."

Another excited fan wrote: "IRISH SWIFTIES THIS IS NOT A DRILL, WICKLOW HAS GOT A MENTION IN SWEET NOTHINGS!???! I had to listen back multiple times to make sure I heard it right but it's in the lyrics?!

"She must have spent so much time here!!!"

Another said: "Taylor Swift mentioning WICKLOW in her songs is probably one of the very last things I’d ever expect."

One Twitter user joked: "Taylor Swift single-handedly saving the Wicklow tourism industry and uniting Ireland with sweet nothing."

Eagle eyed Swifties suspected the superstar was in Donegal last year when she celebrated the one year anniversary of the release of her album Folklore. The singer posted a number of photos online with Irish fans almost instantly recognising the footbridge from Ballymastocker Bay in Portsalon.
