Taylor Swift Is Getting Sued By A Vegas Performer Over Her 2025 Album Life Of A Showgirl

No one said the life of a showgirl was easy, and sadly for Taylor Swift, it’s just gotten a lot more complicated. The singer is facing a lawsuit over copyright infringement in relation to her latest album The Life of a Showgirl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swift and UMG Recordings are being sued by Vegas entertainer Maren Wade, who has accused the singer of “trademark infringement, false designation, and unfair competition” with her 2025 album.

Wade — who previously appeared on America’s Got Talent — wrote a long-running column for Las Vegas Weekly titled Confessions of a Showgirl, which documented her career in the entertainment industry. In the lawsuit, Wade claims Swift’s album title is a little too close for comfort.

The lawsuit reportedly seeks unspecified damages, as well as a court order that would block any further use of The Life of a Showgirl. Wade’s legal team argues her trademark covers a wide scope, including live performances, theatrical productions and TV.

“A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn’t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along,” her lawyer Jaymie Parkinnen said in a statement.

And here’s where things get interesting: when Swift initially tried to trademark The Life of a Showgirl, the United States Patent and Trademark Office reportedly knocked it back for being “confusingly similar” to Wade’s existing work.

Despite that, the lawsuit claims the phrase “of a Showgirl” has still been used across merchandise, packaging and marketing, allegedly targeting the same audience Wade spent years building.

This will certainly be a thorn in Swift’s side, who is currently planning her forthcoming nuptials to Travis Kelce, which apparently includes a honeymoon Down Under.

But Swift is no stranger to lawsuits, having faced a few of them over her time in the spotlight.

Back in 2017, she was sued over her smash hit “Shake It Off”, with songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler alleging the lyrics were lifted from their track “Playas Gon’ Play”. After years of back-and-forth, the case was eventually dropped in 2022, just weeks before it was set to go to trial.

Then there was the 2015 lawsuit over “Bad Blood”, where artist Jessie Braham (aka Jesse Graham) claimed Swift stole lyrics from his song. That case was quickly dismissed, with the judge ruling the similarities were, essentially, too generic to own.

Swift was also caught up in legal drama in 2018, when she was sued by theme park Evermore over the use of the name “Evermore” following the release of her album Evermore. Swift’s team fired back with a countersuit, and the whole thing was eventually settled in 2022.

And in a more left-field case, Swift faced a lawsuit from a Mississippi poet who claimed her book Lover copied elements of her own work. That case, too, was ultimately dropped.

Basically, while this latest lawsuit might sound dramatic, it’s far from Swift’s first time dealing with legal claims over her work, even if most of them haven’t stuck.
