Taylor Swift gives rare insight into relationship with Joe Alwyn on new album Midnights

Taylor Swift has given a rare glimpse of her relationship with boyfriend her Joe Alwyn on her latest album, which was recently released.

The chart-topping singer has kept relatively tight-lipped about her romance with Joe, who she has been dating since 2016.

However, her new album Midnights – tipped as her most personal yet – will se her open up about him on several of the tracks, including one tune he co-wrote.

Sweet Nothing sees Taylor sing about how Joe appears to be the only person who doesn't want something from her.

In the song, she sings: "I found myself running home to your sweet nothings, I'll take their pushing, shoving.

"You're in the kitchen humming, all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing.

"They said the end is coming, everyone's up to something, I found myself running home to your sweet nothings."

Taylor, 32, has previously described Midnights as telling "the stories of 13 sleepless nights, scattered throughout my life."

Joe has actually previously appeared on two other albums from Taylor's discography, featuring under his pseudonym William Bowery on her previous albums Folklore and Evermore.

The pair then sparked a romance following the 2016 Met Gala in New York City.

The multi-award-winning artist has previously talked about a second track from the upcoming release – Lavender Haze – which is penned about protecting "the real stuff" with Joe.

Talking on Instagram she explained: "Like If you were in the Lavender Haze, that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow, and I thought that was really beautiful.

"I guess theoretically when you’re in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud.

"I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just public figures because we live in the era of social media. If the world finds out that you’re in love with somebody, they’re going to weigh in on it."

She then highlighted some of the complex issues they have had to face as a couple and how they get past them.

She continued: "We’ve had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff."

Midnights was released on Friday, after weeks of clever promotion for the record with worldwide billboards teasing excerpts from songs.

On Monday, October 17 a vertical display at one end of New York city's Times Square lit up on the stroke of midnight with the lyric: "I should not be left to my own devices."

Then a London billboard featured the words: "I polish up real nice.'"

A Sao Paulo, Brazil train station lit up at midnight with bright purple letters spelling out the line: "Just like clockwork, the dominoes cascaded in a line."

Then in the home of country music, Nashville’s 1720 West End building lit up to display the lyrics: "Did you ever have someone kiss you in a crowded room?"
