Taylor Swift delighted students at the New York University this week when she gave an empowering speech after receiving an honorary diploma.
The 32-year-old chart topping star was granted an honorary doctorate in fine arts at a ceremony in New York on graduation day this week.
Taylor donned a purple robe and black mortar board hat as she attended the ceremony for the respected American education institution on Wednesday.
And taking to the stand, guests at the ceremony were treated to a lengthy speech by the Shake It Off hitmaker as she gave those graduating her best tips and advice for their lives ahead.
Addressing the crowd, Taylor said: "Life can be heavy, especially if you try to carry it all at once.
"Part of growing up and moving into new chapters of your life is about catch and release. What I mean by that is, knowing what things to keep and what things to release.
"You can’t carry all things, all grudges, all updates on your ex, all enviable promotions your school bully got at the hedge fund his uncle started.
“Decide what is yours to hold and let the rest go. Oftentimes the good things in your life are lighter anyway, so there’s more room for them.”
The singer went on to hint towards her own dating live, which she frequently writes about in her music, added: “One toxic relationship can outweigh so many wonderful, simple joys.
“You get to pick what your life has time and room for. Be discerning.”
Her words of wisdom might raise some eyebrows, however, as even the most devout Swifters would confess that Taylor does appear to hold a grudge at times.
She famously got involved in a bitter fight with fellow pop star Katy Perry – which raged from 2012 until 2019.
The ladies reportedly knocked heads when dancers seemingly loyal to one, suddenly began dancing for the other – with accusations of career sabotage beginning to fly.
The two even wrote songs about each other – with Katy penning one titled Swish Swish and Taylor referencing the spat in the video for her song Look What You Made Me Do.
But the ladies finally buried the hatchet in 2019 and Katy appeared in the video for Taylor’s song You Need To Calm Down – proving thier disagreement was behind them.
However, Taylor has clashed with many other famous faces over the years – including Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber.
While past lovers have the honour – or curse – of finding themselves the subjects of many of her smash hit singles.
